About  Philly Green Man

Our Story

in 1997, I retired from my teaching position of 9 years to stay home

to raise my twin boys for the first 3 years of their life.

I began teaching at Dobbins at the request of my former principal Mr.

Edward Magliocco. He remembered me as a student and called me 5 years

after graduating to come back to head the architecture department.

During my tenure at Dobbins high school, I produced award-winning

architectural design and model building students. They won numerous

design and model building competitions during that time.

In 1999, I found it and published an education and entertainment magazine

called Philly word. We helped to launch the careers of many notable artists

and writers during the five years of publishing.

In 2008, I decided to take my love of people and the environment and used

items, to venture into the green economy slash sustainability movement,

by collecting unwanted sneakers and shoes that were generally thrown away

and began having them sent to Haiti and 8 countries in West Africa.

In the process of identifying and collecting wearable usable sneakers and shoes,

I also notice other recyclable goods that I began to recycle as well. Laptop computers,

cell phones clothing, etc, etc.

Ultimately I began to create a win-win situation by keeping goods out of
waterways

as well as reducing waste and then, in turn, helping people who could

not afford new sneakers and shoes to be able to afford them. Essentially, turning

perceived trash into commodities. There are at least 100 million people worldwide who

cannot afford footwear.

In the USA there are at least 2.5 million pairs of footwear purchased every week

and the majority of them are not worn to completion I began to connect

those two facts and realize the opportunity to do something not only to create

work for myself and others but to provide useful goods to people around the

world who could not ordinarily afford them.

There is Never Ending work for Philly Green Man to do and I don't mind

if other superheroes want to join me too.
